Elva-Porsche Engine and Power Train

l63-12.jpg

The engine supplied by Porsche for the Elva-Porsche project was the 4 cam Fuhrmann (or Carrera) engine fitted with a special vee belt driven flat fan. The fan had been originally designed for the flat 8 cylinder engine and was first seen on a four in the summer of 1961 in Porsche's Formula 2 projects using the 718 chassis.

This particular engine is a 1966cc 578/3[904]. It has a plain bearing crankshaft, dual ignition, 2 plugs per cylinder, dry-sump with a rev limiter. The gearbox is a Type 718 with limited slip and hydraulic clutch.
