Have you ever wanted to find an old car in a barn and bring it back to life again?

Hi Dave,

Well, I bought my friends 1968 912 and brought it home today. I included a shot of it as an attachment. As I start restoring it, I had a couple questions for you. First, is there a bulletin board for 912 owners. I have seen one and thought maybe I was just over looking it. I've found the registry but was wondering if there was anywhere else where owners share advice and tips. Second, this car sat in a dry barn for 10 years and is in very good condition. The only rust is in the floor boards. All of the other typical rust areas (strut mounting, wheel wells, rockers, body panels) are very clean and clear. The point is also very good, needing some rubbing and waxing. Engine has a blown cylinder, but seems fine otherwise. Will tear it all down soon.

I am curious about the wiring. It seems quite stiff and brittle to me. I was thinking about rewiring the entire car rather than putting it all together and chasing problems from one point to the other. Any thoughts on that? Am I trying to kill a fly with a sledgehammer here?

Well, that's it. I'm out to the barn tomorrow to make room for the new addition and set up shop. My son and I are really looking forward to working on this. My goal is to have it on the road in good condition or better in 12 months.

Thanks, Bill Walence

You can use our Bay912.org bulletin board. A wider audience will be found at Pelican Parts.

I don't think any prebuilt 912 wiring harnesses are being built currently.

This is a wonderful opportunity for you and your son. We hope you can give us some progress pictures as the project proceeds.
