Replacing Lower Window Seal

The lower window seals were hard and had shrunk. They needed replacing. These are the seals that are on the outside of the glass at the lower edge held in a channel on a chrome strip at the top of the door.

The replacement parts are a new design - a felt surface is bonded to the rubber that touches the glass.

The part numbers are left 911.531.931.02 and right 911.531.932.02. They cost about $7 US each.
060201-378 The chrome strip holding seals are held on to the door with spring clips. The strip can be pried loose by lifting with a flat blade from the inside with the window rolled down. The clips slide in a channel in the strip. Don't loose them.
060201-379 The fit of the seal in its channel is too tight for the rubber to slide into to the seal. After trying several ways to force the rubber into the groove I settled on incrementally pushing with a small blade screwdriver and a putty knife as shown here. It takes some patience, but all the short cuts I tried did not work any better.
