Palo Alto Concours 2001

The Palo Alto Concours d'Elegance of 2001 was held on the Stanford University campus and again represents a delightful collection of cars from the near ridiculous to the sublime. In the former category, at last year's event, we saw a Corvair with a front mounted Jaguar engine!

The only 912 was Don Massaro's spectacular 1997 version. Wonderful.
L062401-4 We are all curious about the engine in Richard Downing's 1958 Speedster.
062401-402 A beautiful custom VW Type 1 engine. Check this out.
062401-404 Last year I had a modern electronic camera with a dead battery. This year I brought a new Leica camera that I am testing. No battery! The rest of the pictures on this page were take with it.
L062401_22A Porsche Parking. Who's Paranoid?
L062401_24 Don Massaro's 1997 912 show car. This time, the battery in the camera did not die!

L062401_9A Mercedes Benz was the featured mark at this years event. There were 15 300SL shown, both gullwing coupes and convertibles. Patrick Matthews brought two, each nicely restored. Here he is describing his wife's 1956 coupe.
L062401-14 2 Quad throat webers on a 1956 Pegaso Z-102 Coupe.
L062401-18 Custom 1968 Jaguar XKE. Wild!

L062401-41 The car is more than a college education. Tempting.
MG-TF The first sports car I ever road in was an MG TC, 1952, in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. The first one I ever owned was a MG-A. This is between the two, an MG-TF.
