Porsche 356SL Engine

Interesting features:

  • The throttle linkage stretches across the front of the engine. Unfortunately the engine expands when hot and the linkage does not expand at the same rate. You have to pick an operating temperature that you would like the adjustment to be correct.
  • The dip stick is slipped into a V shaped part of the oil filler can support. The dip stick hole has a mechanical temperature sensor in it and stays in the hole except when you want to measure how much oil is in the engine.
  • The regulator is mounted on top of the generator.
  • The distributor has a flat top with the wires coming out the side.
  • The carburetors are single throat and the manifold looks like an upside down Y.
